Monday, December 7, 2009 In Solidarity with Sea Shepherd Conservation Society as they Launch Operation Waltzing Matilda WAR activists wish the Sea Shepherds a "Bon Voyage" and "Happy Hunting" as they Hunt the Japanese Whale Killers. ![]() On Monday, December 7, 2009, over a dozen activists gathered on a cold blustery winter evening at the Japan Consulate Office in New York City to wish our friends aboard the Sea Shepherd ship the Steve Irwin smooth sailing and happy hunting. The Steve Irwin launches on the infamous anniversary of Pearl Harbor Day, December 7th. Activists held their Sea Shepherd "Jolly Roger" flags up high, along with posters portraying the brutal and bloody killing of whales and dolphins sanctioned by the Japanese government. ![]() The sound of strong loud voices was heard up and down New York City's Park Avenue. The protest was scheduled toward the end of the day to take advantage of the Consulate's close proximity to New York's Grand Central Station. Many commuters, on their way home, stopped to chat with the activists and take Sea Shepherd literature. The chants called out Japan as “whale killers”, "murderers” and “greedy profiteers”. “Blood on the ice, Blood in the water, profiting off of the illegal whale slaughter” chanted the protesters. Many who stopped indicated that they recognized the Sea Shepherd "Jolly Roger" and professed that they knew about Sea Shepherd from Animal Planets Whale Wars. Even the police officer, who covered the protest said that he was a big fan of Whale Wars! Video Clip: Sea Shepherd Solidarity Action Sea Shepherd is the only hope that the whales of the Southern Ocean have. While Greenpeace, with it's millions of donor dollars, sits smug and snug in their harbor, the Sea Shepherds will be putting themselves between the whales and the Japanese harpoons. This kind of direct action is extremely effective, but it is also expensive. Please consider doing your holiday shopping in the Sea Shepherd on-line store and while you are at it, make a generous donation to support their critical conservation work. ![]() "Captain Paul Watson and all of our friends, the Sea Shepherds, WAR salutes you and wishes you great success with Operation Waltzing Matilda! |
