WAR celebrates Thanksgiving with Baker , Basso & HLS Customers

Demo #1 - Andrew Baker, CEO of Huntingdon Life Sciences

Back to our regular spot on the corner of Central Park West and W. 88th Street as we bring our message to Andrew Baker, CEO of HLS and his neighbors. It is heartening to look up at the windows and see people who live just a floor or two away from Andrew Baker, giving us thumbs up and raising a fist in the air to signal their support of our efforts.

Literature was once again distributed and even strollers walking through Central Park climb onto the stone wall when they hear our loud and angry chanting. They ask for literature so they can know what it is that we feel so passionate about that we would devote our Sunday afternoons to protest. When they hear about the killing of 500 animals a day by the monsters at Huntingdon Life Sciences, often times they volunteer to carry a sign or promise to come to the next regularly scheduled demonstration.

We realize that as one of the primary investors in Huntingdon Life Sciences, Andrew Baker is unlikely to cut his ties to HLS. For all intents and purposes, Andrew Baker IS HLS. Because of that, we will keep coming back until the killing finally comes to a stop there.

Demo #2 - Jeffrey Meckler, Pfizer - Corporate Finance

Since our last to this location led to a physical assault on some activists, we made a special request of the 20th Precinct to have someone there during our protest. Although police were not initially on the scene, they did come to provide protection for the protesters. Many neighbors and passersby stopped to talk to activists who were distributing a flyer specifically about Pfizer’s association with Huntingdon Life Sciences. We hope that our regular visits here will help Jeffrey Meckler see the light. Huntingdon Life Sciences has abused the animals in their care in the past and Pfizer allows that to continue through their contracts. Do the right thing, Jeffrey Meckler. Don’t support animal cruelty by contracting with Huntingdon Life Sciences.

Demo #3 - Dennis Basso, Notorious Scumbag Furrier

Again, we find it difficult if not impossible to walk past the ground floor apartment of fur pimping scumbag, Dennis Basso without at least giving him a short shout out! Numerous activists gathered at his lobby doorway to chant our outrage and disgust with those who would take the skins of fur bearing animals to satisfy their own greed and vanity. Extra-added bonus…there are always men and women wearing obnoxious full-length fur coats and fur trim on almost anything. Activists chanted: “Hey Basso, what do you say? How did you kill your fur today…gassing, trapping, anal electrocution.” We’ll be back, Dennis Basso. Count on it.

Demo #4 - Lamberto Andreotti, Bristol-Myers Squibb - President – Worldwide Pharmaceuticals

Our final stop of the afternoon was the pretentious castle-like building of BMS’s Lamberto Andreotti (also home of pop icon, Madonna). Even this late in the afternoon, this corner is very active with pedestrians, making it easy to distribute literature and educate the public. Police officers on the scene turned their headlights on which spotlighted out large colorful and graphic banner making it easy for everyone to see it. A loud rambunctious protest followed and many expressed their support for our cause as they passed us. Having someone handing out literature and speaking to folks at the corner helped garner support. Great location….we will be back.
