Friday, November 24, 2006 WAR Joins New Coalition for Fur Free Friday in New York City This year WAR’s attention has been focused on the campaign to stop the killing at animal testing laboratories like Huntingdon Life Sciences, Oxford University and the new proposed lab in New York City that Columbia University wishes to build. We were delighted to receive notification that a new Coalition had formed in New York City calling itself the Coalition of Angry Activists Against Fur or CAAAF. We thought that the take off on the name of the softcore Caring Activists Against Fur was pretty amusing. Unfortunately the New Jersey girls who believe they own the fur issue in New York City got their knickers in a twist and threatened to sue WAR for promoting the new Coalition. The letter from their “attorney”, which wasn’t even on letterhead, went straight into the WAR circular file. WAR activists joined a spirited group of anti-fur campaigners to sound out the message to several fur salons on New York’s fashionable Fifth and Madison Avenues. We hope that the Coalition plans a return engagement soon and that they continue to hammer our favorite fur targets in the city. Protests took place at the following and as promised there wasn’t a barricade or police pen in sight, allowing us to get real close and personal with shoppers as they entered and left various department stores and fur salons: Saks Fifth Ave. Henri Bendel Fendi Revillon Bergdorf Goodmans Prada Mendel Valentino Armani Dennis Basso Joseph The group traveled from location to location with graphic signs of bloody skinned animals shocking many shoppers and pedestrians. Thousands of consumers got a real up close look at what is left when an animal has his or her fur brutally ripped off. Any fur wearer who had the misfortune of crossing our path (and there were a few) will not soon forget our reaction. Lee Hall and the other “Friends” of Animals should travel with the Coalition next time. No doubt she would have enough material for another 100 page book. With “friends” like that who needs enemies? Now that we got that out of our systems, let the melodrama begin in earnest. You guys start without us though, WAR is busy kicking the drug companies around and scaring vivisectors, not to mention people who have the audacity to wear fur in our presence.
