Sunday, November 20, 2005 On Sunday the 20 th Protestors lined the sidewalks in front of Carnegie halls big freaking ta-do fundraiser. They were clearly upset. So they called the mayor. Awwww the poor little babies. Maybe if they didn't have a puppykilling board member Derek Maughan who also works for GSK they wouldn't have to worry about such things. Despite the threat of arrest activist called the bluff of the police to arrest us if we didn't move 40 feet away from the unblocked entrance. As we were told they called the mayor and shit rolls down hill. I guess this time the shit rolled right on to Derek Maughan 's lap. Even more so because after demonstrators left to go table they decided to go right to the man's home. After tabling for a few hours activist played knock knock on Derek Maughan. He didn't like his little surprise of screaming people yelling at the top of there lungs. Police forgot to show up after 20 minutes as activist felt they should move on to fry more puppykillers. Only a few blocks down did we get to the home of Ellen D'Nacola from American Century. Leaving literature for her with a smile fading on the doorman he quickly ran to the phone to call the police. Ooooooouuu we were shaking in our boots. Actually not even close. Heavy screams lit up the dark NYC block. Angry people (imagine in NYC?) came down from every direction to confront the demonstration. As one activist was poked from a resident tensions rose to a high. As another woman tried to rip his sign out of his hands the police came from no where to actually protect the activist? They grabbed the woman pulling her back saying we had every right to be there. That was the first I had ever heard a cop say that. As Spanish radio and media press arrived on the scene by accident to interview some of the activists, the demo continued . . . . With police protection of course. What the neighbors don't realize is the more they take it out on us the longer we stay. Sometimes we even come back sooner and angrier. Just at the tone of Ellen's neighbors, I'm sure she got a few headaches out of that demo. |
