National Primate Liberation Week at Home of Huntingdon Life Sciences CEO

Andrew Baker, Chief Puppy Killer – Huntingdon Life Sciences

The special occasion of National Primate Liberation Week, activists decided to visit the person who they believe is the most notorious monkey murderer in New York City, Andrew Baker, CEO and # 1 investor in Huntingdon Life Sciences.

Fifteen activists gathered on Central Park West and West 88th Street, to shout out a message to Andrew Baker. Voices were raised in unison claiming….”500 animals died today….Andrew Baker is to blame”…..followed by “Your Money, Your Fault”….”Your Company, Your Fault”…and finally “Blood Money, Your Fault”. All activists held posters with pictures of the primates that have been murdered at Huntingdon Life Sciences as they shouted…..”Monkey Killer, Leave Town”.

It was such a beautiful fall day, in New York City, that the sidewalks were teeming with pedestrians, many of whom stopped to chat with activists or to ask for some literature. Many stopped and looked at the very large banner that read “ANDREW BAKER PUPPY KILLER” to ask who Andrew Baker is and exactly what he had done. A perfect opportunity to educate community members as to why activists have been congregating on Central Park West for the past several years. Also, a perfect time to educate them about the failure of animal testing to protect the public from bad drugs and toxic products.

Although the past several Baker demos have seen local police from the 24th precinct drive by on their daily rounds, this Sunday there was a massive police presence with 4 police squad cars and an unmarked car with the commander of the precinct in attendance. No doubt meant to chill free speech, the ostentatious show of power only caused activists to chant louder and more often.

Other demos were planned for the afternoon, but activists opted to postpone those to another day in order to spend more time at Central Park West. Police kept their distance and allowed the totally peaceful and legal protest to continue uninterrupted. The only departure from that was when police demanded that 2 activists that were peacefully handing out pamphlets on the building side of the street were required to cross the street moving them even further than the court required 45 feet stipulated in the restraining order.

When questioned by the protest organizer, police refused to produce the court order and to prove that there was, in fact, an order requiring activists to be across the street. Next Baker demo, organizers will be sure that they have a copy of the court order (which requires no such thing), a legal observer and, of course, video cameras to record any repressive and or potentially illegal tactics of the NYPD.
