Demo Reports

Although today's primary focus was the Mauritius Consulate in New
York City on behalf of the Gateway to Hell campaign, we still managed
to slip over to visit a couple of the companies that allow Huntingdon
Life Sciences to stay in the animal killing business. We found another new branch of Wachovia Bank on Lexington Avenue in
Midtown Manhattan. In our Midtown travels we have made note of
several new branches which have opened just in the last couple of
months. Robert Ingram of GlaxoSmithKline was once again the focus of
our attention, as we asked Wachovia to severe their ties with Ingram,
who sits on their Board of Directors. Apparently, Wachovia is trying to establish a presence in New York
City. They have invested heavily in some expensive promotional
programs to advertise their expanded presence. They must love our
demos complete with full color posters of mutilated puppies and cats
and our flyers detailing Wachovia's relationship with Ingram of GSK.
Any companies or individuals with relationships to HLS customers are
considered viable and legitimate targets of our attention. Our final stop of the day was a good one. We visited the office of
Tradition Asiel Securities on Fifth Avenue. To our delight we found
that Tradition is housed in the Coca Cola building which is directly
adjacent to the main Disney Store. We unfurled our banner that read:
"Don't Invest in HLS, No ROI for Animal Cruelty" and stood, with our
posters of bloody puppies and tortured primates, and created quite a
stir. Numerous passersby stood and looked on in horror as they tried to
make the connection between the "Puppy Killer" signs and either Coca
Cola or Disney. This gave us the opportunity to pass out hundreds of
fliers explaining that building resident, Tradition Asiel, has traded
over 869,000 shares of LSRI stock in the month of July 2005 alone.
Due to the high visibility and the traffic volume, this is a location
that we will likely visit often as long as Tradition continues to
trade in LSRI blood money. Hopefully, complaints from Disney and
Coca Cola will add to the pressure on Tradition to do the right
thing.
Gateway to Hell
8-25-05
Win Animal Rights launches Gateway to Hell campaign at the Mauritius
Consulate in New York City.
Although WAR has campaigned at the offices of Air France, El Al and
other airlines, this was our first visit to the Consulate, which is
located at 211 East 43rd Street in Midtown Manhattan. A
representative was sent up to the Consulate office to let them know
that we had arrived. The young woman who answered the door acted
surprised when she was told that there were demonstrators assembled
in front of the building to protest Mauritius' trade in primates for
vivisection. She told us that she wasn't aware of the campaign, so we
promised to deliver a full package of information next week and to
return often for future protests.
On the street, demonstrators held a banner reading: "BOYCOTT
MAURITIUS GATEWAY TO HELL" and distributed flyers with details of
Mauritius' active involvement in the wild caught primate trade. This
location was one of the most receptive to our flyers and our message.
Within an hour, we had distributed over 200 flyers. Many pedestrians
stopped to chat and ask questions about the campaign and many
promised to call or write the Mauritius Ambassador to the United
Nations and the First Secretary of the Consulate. Most displayed
disgust at the vile and reprehensible slave trade of primates for
vivisection.
As an added bonus, several employees of pharmaceutical giant, Pfizer,
visited our protest with nervous questions about whether we knew
which companies used primates for animal testing. Pfizer has offices
right across the street from the Mauritius Consulate. We made a note
to remember to bring some Pfizer specific literature next time we
return to the Consulate. |
