Friday, July 4, 2008 New York City Activists Protest Human Rights Violations at Austrian Consulate Austrian Consulate General ![]() On Friday, the 4th of July while others celebrated Independence Day, USA national holiday, activists choose to raise their voices in protest at the Austrian Consulate Office. Despite the fact that the office appeared to be closed, there was evidence of Consulate employees within the building. After repeated attempts to reach the Consulate officials, to no avail, activists choose to vent their anger and frustration at the Consulate Office. Native New Yorkers and visitors to the USA strolled the city sidewalks, no doubt on their way to 4th of July fireworks displays and festivities. Many stopped to speak to activists about why they were protesting rather than enjoying the national holiday. All were appalled to learn that Austria has held on remand peaceful and compassionate animal rights advocates for several weeks without any charges being brought against them. Activists chanted in unison and solidarity….”No Justice, No Peace…Until the prisoners are released”…….and “One Struggle, One Fight….Human Freedom, Animal Rights”. Although members of the Consulate were in the building, none answered the doorbell which activists rang over and over again. Activists in attendance expressed grave concern over the health and safety of the political prisoners. Despite the fact that the Consulate was relatively empty, there is no place better for activists to be than at the Austrian Consulate on Independence Day. Austria has violated the human rights of 10 caring and compassionate advocates for animal liberation. A last shout out was held in front of the security camera at the front door of the Consulate. “We will never back down. We will not go away. We will be back. Release the prisoners immediately.” Please take a few minutes to visit the new Austrian Solidarity website at: Click on the picture above for the Austria Solidarity website.
