Saturday, June 24, 2006It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood…..NOT REALLYDemo #1:WAR continued Operation Sinking Ship on this dreary rainy afternoon with a visit to the Upper East Side digs of our favorite money man, Alan Levin, Chief Financial Officer of Pfizer. Great location, lots of foot traffic allowing us to unfurl our massive banner to the hundreds of passers by. As always, lots of support in this neighborhood. Must suck to be a Pfizer executive. Demo #2:A few short blocks away, we visited the hi-rise swanky apartment building of Pfizer's second in command, Vice Chairman David Shedlarz. We love this neighborhood. People stopped to offer kind words of support. Delivery men stopped their bikes to ask for flyers and one pedestrian was so moved by the graphic posters of mutilated animals that she asked, as tears filled her eyes, how she could make a contribution to assist us in our efforts to stop the killing at HLS. Demo #3:WAR activists next stopped at the residence of Melissa Grigorieff. If you have following our story, this is the building whose residents have thrown buckets of water on us (that didn't hit us but almost hit one of Melissa's neighbors who had stopped to chat with us). Residents of this building have assaulted us both physically and verbally. We have been pushed, shoved and even spat at here. Why should today be any different. We thought we were safe from the bucket brigade on the 2 nd floor since it was already pouring rain. But, we weren't…..they threw buckets of ice cubes instead. We wonder if they know that their actions are illegal? Never a police officer around when you need one!!! Demo #4:Our last rainy day stop was the presigious Park Avenue address of Sir Deryck Maughan, Director of GlaxoSmithKline, When we first started doing these protests. We made note of the fact that the doormen from this building would laugh and mock us whenever we were there. We noted with great satisfaction that they are no longer laughing as we have come back time and time again to deliver our message. Again, this is a neighborhood that shows strong support of the campaign and we always give out hundreds of flyers here and talk to interested and caring neighbors about why we are there. |
