Guest Demo Reports - Washington, DC

DC Activists Represent Twice During Staples Weekend of Action

On Friday, June 20th, DC activists converged upon the Staples at 19th & L St NW to demand that Staples stop supplying the bloody butchers and animal abusing perverts at Huntingdon Life Science (HLS). There were activists posted on all corners surrounding Staples armed with graphic signs urging people to boycott staples while handing out flyers exposing Staples of their shady practices of using disguised vehicles to deliver supplies to Huntingdon Life Sciences.

Additionally, Staples employees were offered job applications for Staples' leading competitor Office Depot. They were given the opportunity to learn that there are companies that don’t do business with puppy killers, like Staples.

All in all, DC activists distributed over 600 flyers during the afternoon rush hour foot traffic in downtown Washington DC. Surprisingly enough, there was no police presence, which is an everyday occurrence at DC HLS protests. DC activists finally got a break from police harassment during a great day with many people vowing not to shop at staples and letting Staples know that their unholy union with HLS will not be tolerated! Announcements were made to Staples and Employees giving them a heartfelt welcome and vowed that we will be back again and again until Staples stops supplying HLS.

On Sunday, June 22nd, DC activists returned to the Staples at 19th & L on Sunday to emphasize the importance of dropping HLS as a customer. We handed out a couple hundred leaflets, with the overwhelming majority in support of our campaign. A few even said they would like to join our protest next time.

The first Staples employee that walked by, took a leaflet and an Office Depot job application. Another employee came out just to get a leaflet and said he would look into this issue. One Staples employee came out grinning to stare at us, so a protester kindly offered him a leaflet, to which he yelled, "Get the f**k out of my face!" To help him understand our message, we began chanting as he retreated back inside: "You must, you must, you must understand...the blood, the blood, the blood is on your hands!" and "Scumbag Staples, if you want to get some rest...cut your ties with HLS!" as well as many other chants. Hopefully next time, he'll take a leaflet and do what he can do to help Staples become a compassionate company.

The animals at HLS don't have a Staples "easy button" to get out. For them, Staples may as well be a "Pain Button" as displayed at the demo. Until either HLS closes their doors for good or Staples stops supporting them, DC animal rights activists will be pushing a pain button of our own-for Staples AGAIN and AGAIN! WE’LL BE BACK....Rest assured Staples!
