"Last Monday (May 12th), local AR affinity group held their second two hour demonstration in front of Staples on US19 in Clearwater, FL. This time activists were better prepared for police interaction (at our last demo officers lied to participants about laws regarding leafleting and claimed they'd arrest us "and bullshit an ordinance, so no one will even know why you're in jail" when an activist refused to consent to a search). As police rolled up, designated activists communicated with officers regarding the legality of their presence, showing officials the section of CLW ordinances that states that "passing out handbills" is in fact, legal. A total of ten activists held signs with images depicting the animal abuse that Staples is supplying. Informational flyers were also distributed, detailing the cruelties at HLS and its relationship to Staples. Many patrons vowed to contact Staples after learning about their shady involvement with the contract-research facility. Many more decided to take their business elsewhere. This is one of three protests held in the last two weeks in our area and it will not stop until Staples officially vows to severe their ties with HLS!" Note from WAR: Three cheers for three protests in Florida. In addition to the two in Clearwater, one was held in Palm Harbor. Another protest is planned for the very near future. Keep up the inspiring work!
