Sunday, April 27, 2008 World Lab Animal Liberation Week Wrapup Weekend – III Demo #1: Roger Waltzman - Sales Manager - Novartis - HLS Customer First stop was an unpublicized one, as activists have just learned the whereabouts of the residence of one of Novartis’ sales managers, Roger Waltzman. Roger’s neighbors were disgusted to learn that his company, Novartis, contracted with the animal abusers at Huntingdon Life Sciences. Many were stunned to find out that animals were still widely used to test needless crap like Viagra and Splenda. Now that his residence is known activists will likely call on this location regularly. Next time probably on a weekday evening when he is more likely to be home. Demo #2: Andrew Baker - CEO - Huntingdon Life Sciences For the fourth time in as many years, WAR called on the Central Park West residence of Huntingdon Life Sciences CEO, Andrew Baker for World Laboratory Animal Liberation Week. Fifteen activists lined Central Park West across from where Baker shares a multi-million dollar apartment overlooking New York City’s scenic Central Park. An apartment purchased with the blood and suffering of countless tortured and abused animals. Andrew Baker and his wife Susan own approximately 20% of Huntingdon Life Sciences. The blood of innocent animals stains everything they own. Activists, knowing that they are facing the ultimate evil, have always given their all to making the Baker protests as loud and spirited as possible. Refusing to be silenced by the loud traffic and lack of a bullhorn for amplifications, activists have taken to shouting as loud as they can in order to be heard. And it works, as evidenced by the people scaling the wall around the park to see what was going on. After 90 minutes of distributing literature and giving vent to their anger and rage, activists packed up and headed to HLS’ customers and suppliers. The only way to stop the carnage at HLS is to take away their business. Morals and ethics don’t matter to them. All the greedy bastards care about is the bottom line. Demo #3: Staples - HLS Supplier - 2248 Broadway Although people in this neighborhood of very supportive of the campaign to stop the killing at Huntingdon Life Sciences, local shop keepers that adjoin Staples allow their own greed and self absorption to skew their thinking into taking an adversarial position with popular protesters. One would think that their displaced anger would better be voiced to Staples, which is ultimately responsible for the demonstrations. One store manager went so far as to send an employee out to water the trees, not only in front of his store, but also, all along the block that the protesters were lined up against. Staples customers that were trying to find out what the protest was all about were almost pulled to the sidewalk by the hose and animosity ran high on the street against the storeowner, who was obviously trying to subvert the peaceful legal protest. Police were called and arrived and gave us a thumbs up as they told us to carry on. All of this only causes neighbors to have more sympathy for activists. Demo #4: Dorothy Watson - General Counsel, Novartis – HLS Customer Last location of the day was the luxury apartment building that is home to Dorothy Watson, Vice President and General Counsel of Novartis. This popular, well trafficked Broadway & 72nd Street location is great and even better since activists moved the protest to the corner. Once again many flyers were distributed and many promised to call Novartis during business hours on Monday. This was a perfect place to wrap up the World Laboratory Animal Liberation Week commemoration. The 70,000 animals imprisoned in cold steel cages and concrete pens at Huntingdon Life Sciences were never far from the activist’s minds. It the knowledge of these animals and the many countless millions in other vivisection labs that gives the activist community the strength and the fortitude to continue the struggle against overwhelming odds. We fight for them because we must. Their despair and their terror fuel our anger. Without us they have no hope. We will not abandon them. We will never forget their suffering and pain.
