Thursday, April 27, 2006 WAR Joins the Coalition to Stop new Columbia Lab Activists with Win Animal Rights spent the afternoon educating Columbia students and community residents about the proposed building of a Level 3 Bio-Research Lab in their neighborhood. WAR joined over 200 community activists that were protesting their pending relocation from the neighborhood that most of them have lived and worked in for their entire lives. Columbia University has already notified Harlem residents that the building of the new lab will displace them. Although most were there because of the human interest, many were interested in hearing about the level of animal deaths, cruelty and suffering that would be caused by the building of the lab. Protest marchers carried signs with pictures of primates that were taken in Columbia University research labs. Community organizers were happy to see that the interests of Harlem's non-human residents were represented by WAR and they encouraged us to participate in future events. WAR Delivers Info to Pfizer Executives In preparation of the launch of the campaign to educate Pfizer, WAR activists spent the evening delivering information packets to the homes of key executives of major HLS customer Pfizer. Information packets included Huntingdon Life Sciences Fact Sheets, HLS Financial Reports and DVDs of the undercover video footage taken inside Huntingdon Life Sciences. |
