WAR Stands in Opposition to the South African Elephant Kill

In Solidarity with the Coalition to Save the Elephants & Animal Rights South Africa

On Saturday April the 12th, activists in New York City gathered by the Gandhi statue in Union Square to hold a demonstration opposing the scheduled elephant kill in South Africa. WAR activists stood in solidarity with the local Coalition to Save the Elephants and Animal Rights South Africa which is coordinating the campaign on an international level.

Activists spoke with the shoppers of Union Square about the impending massacre of these beautiful creatures in South Africa, educating them on the fact that elephants are intelligent beings that mate for life and mourn their dead, among other things. Union Square is a known hangout for scoial justice activists so the message was welcomed and supported by most.

On May 1st sharpshooters will start killing entire families of elephants in an attempt to "control population," as the South African government claims. Activists know what's really going on - the bottom line is always MONEY, GREED and POWER but it's always disguised as a concern for humankind. Bullshit.

To ensure that their voice was heard from half a world away, protesters gathered hundreds of signatures on letters demanding a stop to the killing of these majestic animals; the letters are to be delivered to the South African government.

Voice your opposition to the planned elephant kill by contacting the South African government. Let them know that eco-tourism is a far greater economic resource to them.
