Saturday, April 4, 2009 WAR Marches In Solidarity ![]() Bailout the People Parade United for Peace and Justice Parade On Saturday, April 4th a contingent of a dozen animal liberation activists joined the rally and march of the “Bail Out People” Movement (http://bailoutpeople.org). Several hundred activists rallied at the site of the New York Stock Exchange on Wall Street to listen to speakers, who empowered the marchers with chants for the march. The march began at the New York Stock Exchange and traveled past it on the way to Broadway. Many stopped to watch the march and to signal “thumbs up”. For the first time, Win Animal Rights or W.A.R. marched under the Green Anarchy Flag that is black and green. Many stopped to ask about the significance of the flag and the fact that the group chose to march in “Black Block”. The march ended in Bowling Green Park, also known as Battery Park. WAR marchers stayed at the park, for an hour or so, to continue to answer questions and chat with both marchers and visitors to the rally. We cannot stress how important we believe it is to support other social and economic justice movements. In this case, it is obvious that we are all in this together. The failing economy has impacted people and animals. People who are having a hard time feeding and housing their human families are facing the devastating inability to care for their companion animals. Shelters are over run with abandoned animals. Funding for animal advocacy organizations has taken a nosedive. Meanwhile everything continues to get more and more expensive, as bankers and brokers cash their extravagent bonus checks courtesy of the people. We must stand together, with our comrades, to fight injustice and to demand that the government bailout should be directed at people and not wealthy bankers and financiers.
