March Madness Continues - Weekend #4

Demo #1: Derryck Maughan, Director - GlaxoSmithKline

Win Animal Rights raised a ruckus on the East Side Sunday afternoon for both fur-bearing animals and those trapped inside Huntingdon Life Sciences. The first stop of the day was at the home of Derryk Maughan, Board member Emeritus for GlaxoSmithKline. Because greedy Glaxo is such a staunch supporter of the heinous abuse inside Andrew Baker's death labs, the protesters decided to share that information with his neighbors. "500 animals died today! Derryk Maughan is to blame!" Maughan is certainly in a position to influence the company, and until he does, activists will be outside his Park Avenue residence naming and shaming him.

From across the street, a man from another protest (against the ASIA Society for refusing to provide health and pension benefits to its media employees) walked over to find out what the commotion was about. After a friendly chat and an exchange of fliers, the fellow protester returned to his demonstration to inform his comrades. It's just grand when different causes help each other out!

Demo #2: Daniel Sullivan – Canadian Consul General

Following Maughan, the activists shifted focus towards the plight of other innocent beings, the hundreds of thousands of seal pups that will be horrifically killed this year on the Canadian ice. For the second weekend in the row, demonstrators arrived at the residence of Daniel Sullivan, Counsel General for the Canadian government. Officials can ignore e-mails and petitions, but not the boisterous chants of more than a dozen angry activists.

One segment of the "hunt" begins in Monday, March 23rd, while the next and largest segment of the slaughter, which will claim the lives of over 200,000 seals, begins next month. Remember kids, don't believe the hype by sealers and furriers. These poor creatures are not killed as humanely as possible, unless you count a harapik to the head or a flurry of gun shots as humane! And don't get us started on the skinning! Russia recently banned its own seal hunt; now it's your turn!

During the protest, a mother and daughter stopped by to talk to the few activists. The family saw them last week and were horrified by the images of death. The young girl informed them that she was going to write President Obama and urge him to pressure Canada to end the brutal seal slaughter. Perhaps another activist in the making! Here is another gentle reminder, Mr. Sullivan. Activists will return to your home again and again and the Canadian government will have no peace while the ice remains covered in blood.

Demo #3: Robert Kelly – Chairman & CEO Bank of New York Mellon

Content with the pro-seal protest (and having again run out of fliers; thanks compassionate pedestrians!), the activists left Park Avenue and headed to the Third Avenue home of Robert Kelly, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Bank of New York Mellon. Despite selling most of their shares, BONY still retains thousands of shares of LSR stock, and thus demonstrations will not cease until all investment relations with the puppy killers are axed.

When the protesters arrived on the scene, they encountered two men in business suits waiting for them. Hhhmm, FBI? Private security for Bob Kelly? One thing is for sure, they weren't very nice people. What they lacked in intelligence, they made up for in belligerence, as they repeatedly got into the faces of protesters with their cameras and attempting to grab fliers from their hands. Oh goodness, a camera! Pfft, just add the photos to the W.A.R. files! As with the previous BONY lackeys, activists are not easily intimidated.

It goes to show you that Mr. Kelly and the Bank of New York Mellon are starting to feel the heat. Don't worry, Bob, ridding yourself of those pesky activists is easy. Just dump Huntingdon Life Sciences for good!
