Sunday, March 7, 2010 WAR Keeps the Pressure on NYC Carriage Horse Industry Before Upcoming City Council Hearings With City Council Hearings Scheduled for March 12th, Activists Hopeful due to Overwhelming Support of both native New Yorkers and Compassionate Tourists ![]() On March 7, 2010, with New York City Council hearings only days away, activists gathered again at the hack line at Central Park to advocate for the poor horses enslaved by the Carriage Horse industry. Protesters were joined by members of another group that were out at the Park gathering information for the upcoming hearings. They decided to join the protest and stayed through the afternoon. >As always, the protest was peaceful and represented a change of pace for Win Animal Rights, because it was largely silent. Actigvists used the time to reach out to tourists and prospective carriage patrons in a positive manner. Hundreds of flyers were distributed and horse advocates were happy to see how many made an ethical decision to forego the horse drawn carriages in favor of other entertainment. Men, women and children all had the same reaction to the pictures and stories of cruelty to the horses. Once educated they turned their backs on animal abuse and promised to tell others not to patronize this cruel and heartless industry. Once again, film producer Donny Moss, whose documentary Blinders continues to help educate animal advocates, was on hand to document not only the cruelty inherent in the carriage horse trade, but also the poor treatment of the horses. This was evidenced by pictures of horses whose hides show the result of excessive abrasion. ![]() If you reside in New York City, please take a minute to contact your City Council Representative.
