Saturday, March 7, 2009 March Madness Continues - Weekend #2 WAR Refocuses on Huntingdon Life Sciences Customers Bristol-Myers Squibb and Novartis Thank you Mother Nature! Win Animal Rights welcomed unseasonably warm temperatures as they took to the streets once again to name and shame those who seek to make a profit from murder and mayhem. Demo #1: Lamberto Andreotti, President & Chief Operating Officer – Bristol-Myers Squibb The first protest of the day was held at the home of Lamberto Andreotti, newly promoted* (see note below) President and Chief Operating Officer of Bristol-Myers-Squibb. The busy location allowed protesters to spread the word about Andreoitti's less-than-admirable exploits. His neighbors heard loud and clear. "Hey Lamberto, there's no excuse for animal abuse!" During the demonstration, the cruel and exploitative horse carriage drivers working across the street thought they could sneak behind the angry activists. They thought wrong as they too received a verbal thrashing. Many pedestrians were interested in the protest, took fliers, and spoke to protesters. Even those walking across the street stopped by to see what all the commotion was about. The protesters received a great deal of positive feedback indeed. * Note: "Bristol-Myers Squibb has shuffled some of its executive ranks, naming Lamberto Andreotti its president and giving him a seat on the board...Andreotti, who remains chief operating officer, was also named to a new four-member executive committee, which includes Chairman and Chief Executive Jim Cornelius, Chief Financial Officer Jean-Marc Huet and R&D head Elliott Sigal. ...Andreotti’s responsibilities won’t change but his new title speaks to the company’s “recognition of his strong performance....” http://blogs.wsj.com/health/2009/03/04/reading-the-ceo-tea-leaves-at-bristol-myers-squibb/ Demo #2: Dorothy Watson - General Counsel & Vice President - Novartis Next, the protesters marched over to the home of Dorothy Watson, General Counsel and Vice President at Novartis. Much like Lamberto's Central Park West apartment, the high level of foot traffic on Broadway provided the activists with a tremendous outreach opportunity. Many people were shocked to hear of their neighbor's role in the barbarity inside Huntingdon Life Sciences. Sorry to tell you, Ms. Watson, but doing business with a company that dissects live monkeys and poisons pregnant rabbits to death for artificial sweetener is not a way to gain friends in the neighborhood. Demo #3: Jeremy Levin – Senior Vice President, External Science, Technology and Licensing – Bristol-Myers Squibb To conclude the day, the activists returned to the residence of Jeremy Levin, another BMS executive. Since the protesters usually encounter angry neighbors on Riverside Drive, they expected some form of backlash. They guessed right as one uncouth woman decided to drop a bag of water out of her twelfth story window. Luckily nobody was hit in the attack, though activists did gave her the one finger salute. The police were called and quickly arrived on the scene. As with previous demonstration in this area, the police were very courteous and professional. Of course the woman denied responsibility for the action. That's okay, since such aggression only lengthens the time of the protest. Those nutty residents in Levin's building proved to be an anomaly as activists again received thumbs up and words of gratitude from the residents of neighboring buildings for alerting them to their naughty neighbor. Hey Levin, people don't want you or your blood money if their neighborhood. For shame! With any luck, the weather will continue to hold steady and permit more peaceful demonstrations in the upcoming weeks. With March Madness under way, those who seek to do business with Huntingdon Life Sciences might receive a little hello from Win Animal Rights. See you on the streets!"
