Saturday, January 28, 2006 WAR visits homes of HLS financial supporters On Saturday, January 28 th after a full day of educational outreach at Union Square, tireless activists of Win Animal Rights, headed to the Fifth Avenue home of Warren Spector, President of Bear Stearns, which continues to make a market for LSRI (aka Huntingdon Life Sciences). A pair of activists entered the building lobby and spoke to Warren on the phone. He expressed no interest in hearing our message, so a loud and raucous protest was held on his doorstep. Numerous flyers were distributed to neighbors who went out of their way to approach the demonstration to find out which of their neighbors was the “puppy killer”. The high level of interest in our message by Spector's neighbors was gratifying and we held out the hope that one of them would pass our message along to Mr. & Mrs. Spector. The group chanted: “500 animals died today….Warren Spector is to blame”. Just as we were about to leave, a young couple leaving the building stopped to ask us a few questions. It was quickly apparent that we were speaking to Warren and Barbara Spector. Warren claimed that Bear Stearns was not trading LSRI stock. We explained that we had submitted indisputable proof that Bear had traded LSRI stock in October, November and December of 2005, to a Bear Stearns representative that we have recently been in dialogue with. Both Mr. & Mrs. Spector asked questions and seemed interested in getting to the bottom of the controversy. We left them with an appeal to severe their financial ties to LSRI and the promise that we would be in touch with them this week in the hopes that they will be sending us a letter. Our next stop was the home of Vertical Group principal, Robert Schaffer. Although Robert appeared to be out for the evening, we left flyers detailing his company's involvement and support of HLS as a primary market maker for LSRI. Even though we were not able to speak to Robert directly, we spoke to several of his neighbors who expressed their dismay at hearing that their neighbor supported the puppy killing scum at Huntingdon Life Sciences. Multiple neighbors thanked the protesters for spending their Saturday night giving voice to the plight of laboratory animals and pledged support for WAR's future efforts. |
