Demo at ASPCA Focusing on Promoting Oreo's Law

Rain did not stop WAR from representing at ASPCA Headquarters During a Spay/Neuter Event for Feline Rescuers

Demonstrators stood in front of ASPCA Headquarters with plastic covered posters to remind the ASPCA that Oreo has not been forgotten. WAR demands justice for Oreo and will keep speaking out until she gets it.

Good spirits prevailed despite some of the most crotchety kitty rescuers imaginable. But, activists forgave them because they know how hard the rescuers work to save the city's alley cats. One protester even offered to help the ill mannered rescuer carry cats in and out of the building.

This rescuer directed all of her anger and hostility on the activists, who worked hard not to speak out against her.

The peaceful and quiet demonstration continued with NYPD presence in the form of a squad car and two uniformed officers.

When the protest was over and bags were being packed, a newly arrived contingent of NYPD officers, led by a Sergeant came ostensibly to arrest WAR activist Camille Hankins.

The only explanation for the rude and offensive behavior of the Police Sergeant is that the call from the ASPCA (which ridiculously was so very unnecessary) must have interupted the Sergeant's viewing of the Jets football game.

When he arrived his face was ruddy and flushed, his temples appeared to be throbbing and he insisted that he was there to arrest Hankins because of a restraining order. Apparently he had mistakenly thought that the Huntingdon Life Sciences restraining order covered all WAR protest locations, which it does not.

Instead of arresting Camille, a visiting activist was caught up in the Sergeant's unexplained wrath. The visitor was arrested for no reason, spent the night in jail and was released the following morning.

The activist is fighting this case of wrongful arrest.
