Resolution 156, currently before the New York City Council, would call on the New York State Legislature to repeal State Law that currently bans the passage of dangerous dog legislation that is breed specific. Once this State Law is revoked, New York City would be free to pass legislation to ban specific breeds of dogs that the City deems to be dangerous. Pit Bulls, Rottweillers & who know which other breeds, would likely be targeted for extermination.

In Denver, Colorado, a Pit Bull ban has resulted in one horrifying scene after another, of animal control officers tearing mild mannered and non-aggressive pit bulls out of their homes and away from their families. No attempt was made to determine if these dogs were dangerous dogs. Pit Bulls & mixed breed dogs were dragged from their homes leaving families devastated and children in tears as they watched their family's beloved pets taken away and killed.

We must make sure that the City Council clearly understands that we will not tolerate such an unjust solution to a problem, that is controllable by other non-lethal means.
